Day Job/Career: I am a small business owner serving as a leadership development consultant and trainer. I also serve as a part-time adjunct instructor for the Workforce Training & Professional Development department at Northcentral Technical College.
How did you become involved with OCL? I worked at BW Papersystems (a Barry-Wehmiller company) in Phillips, WI for 9 years and had the opportunity to take the Communication Skills Training (CST) class in 2011. In 2012 I became a certified facilitator for CST and taught several classes at our divisions in the United States and Europe. I left the company in 2017 to relocate to the Oshkosh area and about two years later, ran into a past colleague who mentioned that OCL was looking for facilitators. I jumped at the opportunity to get involved with OCL and am excited to bring this amazing curriculum to communities throughout Wisconsin!
How do you most often find yourself using what you learned in CST? All modules within CST have holistically enhanced my communication skills but there are three concepts/tools that I find myself using the most – DISC behavior styles, empathy, and reflective listening. People crave being understood and these three tools are vital to understanding others. When we take the time to understand, it opens the door to healthy communication and relationships.
Three things that make me smile: My husband, my cats, and the mountains!
My idea of a great day: Taking a fall hike in early October with my husband in Door County. Crisp fresh air, vibrant colors, warm sun, bright blue sky, and the shores of Lake Michigan are a relaxing and magical combination!
