Day job/ career:
Director of Mentoring Programs for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Great Lakes Bay Region. We provide one to one mentoring relationships to at risk youth in our community with the hopes of changing their lives for the better, forever!
How did you become involved with Our Community Listens?
I took the class in 2016 and loved it! The course skills have become a huge part of our culture and shared language at Big Brothers Big Sisters. Recently I worked closely with our chapter leader to create training and curriculum that cab be shared the skills with our mentors and the kids we serve.
What is your hope for Our Community Listens?
My hope for is that we are able to share these skills with people across the world and as a result broken relationships can be healed. A lot of the problems we are facing as a society could be influenced by people simply practicing the CST skills every day!
How do you most often find yourself using what you learned in CST?
I find myself using the skills every day. I also find myself making mistakes with my communication every day, but I think that’s part of the journey. The biggest reward is seeing my relationships with others transforming and growing all the time!
Who is your favorite superhero and why?
Batman! He is my favorite super hero because he doesn’t have immortal powers. He is just a regular man who was dealt a life of tragedy but instead of wallowing in his pain he uses his influence to bring good to his community. He chooses to focus not on how we fall in life but in how we rise back up each time, I LOVE that!
